VIRGINIA: At a special meeting of the Augusta County Board of Supervisors held on Monday, January 23, 2017, at 9:30 a.m., at the Government Center, Verona, Virginia, and in the 241st year of the Commonwealth….
Chairman Pyles called the meeting to order.
The Employee Appreciation Cookie Social PowerPoint was shown to the Board. The Board would like to see it posted on the website and sent to the press.
The Board reviewed the minutes from March 21, 2016 Priority meeting and noted updates.
MAGISTERIAL DISTRICT PRIORITIES – 2017
WAYNE:
1. Round-a-bout—resubmit Smart Scale project if needed.
Woodrow Wilson Complex 2nd entrance (CSPDC study) next Smart Scale round 2. Tear down old school board property or options 3. Shared Path (Rt. 636) 4. Trail off Rt. 636 (Murphy Deming/Crescent) 5. Litter Control 6. Courthouse 7. Fire & Rescue Strategic Plan 8. Reassessment 9. Economic Development-Investments (Westgate, Weyers Cave, Mill Place, Lifecore) 10. Broadband 11. Regulatory Reform-Ordinance Committee review, affects jobs
BEVERLEY MANOR:
1. Broadband-support committee 2. Sidewalk Project (Scholastic Way)-Funding next phase 3. Verona sidewalks (Rt. 612)-future grant?

MIDDLE RIVER:
1. Weyers Cave-water tower needed, FAA will need to approve site 2. Library in Weyers Cave a. No County funding in Building or Staff (volunteers) b. Rotate books, help with computer skills c. Old pharmacy at Weyers Cave-Community Development will review.
3. Board of Supervisors Middle River dinner a. Feb 20-Presidents Day 21-Staff Briefing day
PASTURES:
1. Infrastructure-place, value, guidelines leverage other funds, % of infrastructure towards project, increase infrastructure money.
2. Broadband committee-technology 3. Permitting-what is required to do business in the County.
4. School Board buildings-value, cleanup, what uses are out there 5. Pipeline-Feb 9 Virginia Outdoor Foundation easements meetings
NORTH RIVER:
1. Natural Chimneys Plan 2. Chicken Ordinance 3. Internet Access- a. Committee by District (Board appointed) b. Invite local providers to meetings c. Grant options d. Survey marketing assistance
RIVERHEADS:
1. School Libraries internet access a. Open for public on set schedule 2. Pipeline-need taps in County 3. Replace water lines related to fire flow (areas of need-Rt. 340) 4. Roads, Drainage-Greenville and Stoney Run 5. Subdivision at Riverheads Elementary School-what are County obligations.
6. Fire & Rescue-call orders-Walkers Creek Craigsville 7. Spottswood Ruritan roof 8. Rt. 252, Newport Road site distance/Lofton Road entrance/Love’s Road access
SOUTH RIVER:
1. Small Area Development Plan-Stuarts Draft 2. Library Station 3. Community Center/Area 4. Lyndhurst Sewer- (Greenville WTP example) 5. Ordinance/Blight and Panhandling 6. Coal Road Mine Access 7. South River DuPont grants
COUNTYWIDE ISSUES
Board members presented their thoughts on countywide issues. The following issues were presented:
1. Fire & Rescue Strategic Plan 2. Regional E-911 3. Courthouse 4. Pipeline 5. Reassessment 6. Economic Development-marketing investments, workforce development Mr. Fitzgerald thanked the Board for providing input in the priorities presented today.
Their thoughts will help staff focus on what the Board feels important and provides a basis in which budget decisions going forward can be made.
Chairman Pyles also thanked the Board for their participation. He felt the meeting was very beneficial and provided guidance moving forward.
