VIRGINIA: At a joint meeting of the Augusta County Board of Supervisors and the Augusta County School Board, held on Thursday, November 6, 2008, at 4:45 p.m., at the Government Center, Verona, Virginia, and in the 233rd year of the Commonwealth….
Welcome was provided by David R. Beyeler, Chairman of the Augusta County Board of Supervisors, and Chad D. Shomo, Chairman of the Augusta County School Board.
Dr. Gary D. McQuain, Augusta County School Superintendent, presented:
I. Prioritized list of Capital Improvements II. Assessment of School Board Property a. Appraisal of current central office property b. Option 1 – move to Verona c. Option 2 – build in Fishersville d. Option 3 – status quo III. Elementary and Pod Schools a. Ladd Elementary School i. Option 1 – close school and move students to Cassell, Wilson, and Stuarts Draft Elementary schools.
1. Renovate/new construction to Cassell 2. Renovate/new construction to Wilson ii. Option 2 – purchase land and rebuild new Ladd iii. Option 3 – renovate Ladd at the current site b. Beverley Manor Elementary School i. Option 1 – close school and move student to Churchville and Riverheads Elementary Schools ii. Option 2 – renovate Beverley Manor at the current site c. Verona Elementary School IV. Fort Defiance Field House Enrollment projection provided by Eric Bond, Assistant Superintendent for Operations.
Both the Board of Supervisors and School Board acknowledged the tough economic environment and indicated that there is no time frame on the capital plans at this time.
ADJOURNMENT
There being no other business to come before the Board, Mr. Coleman moved, seconded by Mr. Shifflett, that the Board adjourn.
Vote was as follows: Yeas: Howdyshell, Sorrells, Garber, Beyeler, Shifflett, Pyles and Coleman Nays: None Motion carried.
